Let's talk makeup: Koh Gen Do

If you are unfamiliar with it as of yet, I want to bring you into the light that is:
This amazing makeup line from Japan was introduced to me by the head makeup artist on the set of Mad Men, and I have never looked back.

I must be honest that I have very clear skin that gives me little or no problems or blemishes. I don't get too dry or too oily.  So I do not know if my regimen will work for everyone, but this line is still something you must check out.

Now, the following is my usual regimen for auditions or events.  My normal daily life if I don't have auditions, I will use a couple or none of these because I am lazy and I don't care.  :D

I start out with moisturizer (I like Kiehl's, but that's for another blog entry).

First of all, I love this brightening foundation that I use after moisturizer:

I don't necessarily put it everywhere, but usually between my eyelids and eyebrows, and on my cheeks. --Anywhere I want some extra brightness.  It's really nice.

Then the foundation:
I use the Aqua Foundation, which I love because it is very LIGHT, and water based, as the name clearly states.  It can be applied thicker, but it goes on very very lightly and is just the perfect tiny correction to even out your skin.  I use a combination of two of them to get the proper color for myself.  The only place that I know carries Koh Gen Do in LA is Barney's in Beverly Hills.  So if you live here, I'd recommend a trip to get the correct colors from their super amazing Koh Gen Do specialists :)

If you don't live near a vendor, you're stuck with:

Oh, and one note of caution, the only sucky thing about these foundations is that they are in heavy glass bottles.  Not only are they somewhat costly to begin with, but I have so far broken TWO from then falling onto the ground.  Use them with care.  And Koh Gen Do people, change the packaging!!

Next, the concealer palette:
This is probably their most valuable and useful product.  It's small, easy to carry in your purse, and has a mirror under the lid.   I use the bottom right color for under the eyes, as I have certainly learned that you don't want to make the space under your eyes look exactly like the rest of your skin, or worse yet, LIGHTER that the rest of your face.  Keep it natural.  I use the left color for any touchups over blemishes, and for the lids of my eyes, and I use the light one for just under the brow, and anywhere that needs a little highlight.  Of course, if your skin is a different shade, you can easily mix whatever color you need!

Then powder if you need it:
Self explanatory.  Just also light and great.

LIPSTICKS:
These are the most luxuriant lipsticks I have ever tried.  Very moisturizing and light.  They give more of a tint and shine than a strong color.  I bought Fresh Pink and Coral Pink.  Coral Pink is my favorite, but Fresh Pink has more sparkle and shine.

My favorite makeup remover:
This stuff is incredible.  Light, as all the products, scentless, and causes zero eye irritation.  No greasy feeling whatsoever after use.  I love love love love love this makeup remover.  And it's the only product by Koh Gen Do that you can find at Sephora!  So I get this there all the time.   Koh Gen Do also makes a fabulous makeup wipe which I have only tried so far as a sample, but it's great.

So those are the products I use all the time and love.  There are also a lot of other unique and interesting products in Koh Gen Do's line.  Very worth a look and try.

The CON to the Koh Gen Do line:  It's EXPENSIVE.  Like, the lipsticks will run you $40.  That's right. FORTY DOLLARS.  Insanely expensive?  Perhaps (yes!), but as I have never used a nicer lipstick in my life, as long as I don't lose the damn things, I think the 2 lipsticks I bought will be well worth the cost.

I hope you enjoy this line as much as I do.  Also, in my quest to be a Japanese girl, I feel this is a good step.

Enjoy!

UCB training

I've been studying improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade now for awhile and let me just say... this stuff is HARD.  And I'm wondering at what point I will feel I have any clue what I'm doing.  So much to learn, but I love feeling scared and feeling the necessity to be extra-alert and ready for anything.  So, I shall continue my study until I'm on that stage regularly, bitches!  In other words, I'm going to get GOOD.

There.  It is now written.

--And as a p.s., if you are like me and you weren't really aware of the shows going on at the UCB theatre on Franklin, GO.  They are amazing and so so cheap.  What an exciting and great artform to experience, where they are creating it before your very eyes, never to be repeated.  Most shows are just $5 for an hour.  Do yourselves a favor and partake.  Make reservations early. Every single show will be sold out. With good reason.

New 1/2 Hr FX comedy with Charlie Sheen

Anger Management was the best set I've ever been on.  And I say that because I felt that everyone working on the show, cast and crew alike, were all HAPPY to be there and be working on this project.  It was a happy, fun set.  This show shoots incredibly quickly (one episode every 3 days), so I only got to work with these guys for 2 days!  :.(  I was sad it was over so quickly.

Charlie Sheen, Me, Brett Butler, Derek Richarson

And may I just comment on how ON POINT Charlie Sheen was the entire time.  My scenes were with him and Derek Richardson, who is super great.  I really had a wonderful time working with these actors and the producers and writers and director and all the crew.  I'm so grateful and can only hope to have many more jobs like this in the future.

Anger Management airs Thursdays on FX, premiering June 28.  I did episode #8.  It's gonna be FUNNY!

Commercial for Glidden paint

Catching up on some 2 week old news, I shot a commercial for Glidden as a badass motorcycle chick girlfriend.

--Or at least as badass as I've had the pleasure in commercial world. :)   I mean, I got to wear LEATHER and my own rad John Fluevog boots.

Directed by amazing Stuart Rideout and hugging for dear life onto wonderful Gabriel Myers.  The challenge was riding up fire roads in Griffith Park sans eyewear of any kind.  There was a ton of dried mud on the road from the recent rains, which was now fine dust and sand constantly blowing into our eyes from the camera truck that rode directly in front of us, as we tried to look happy and in love on our ride.  Hilarious.  I spent half the time ducking behind Gabriel, and I'm just glad he was capable enough with our hog and kept us upright and steady.

A kid show at last!

I'm SO SO EXCITED that I finally got to work on a show for KIDS!  Worked on this great show on Disney XD, "Pair of Kings."  It's about a pair of twin teenagers who rule an island nation.  Of course one of the boys is black and the other is white.  Twins.  Tres Disney.

Eric Artell and I got to play a brother and sister team of evil swamp creatures that can take on human shape in order to carry out a diabolical plan.  I was honestly expecting simple, perhaps somewhat cheesy costumes, and they pulled off such insanely legit prosthetics:

I wanted to take the contacts home with me, but they wouldn't let me.

And even with most of my skin ripped off when we took the prosthetics off, and having to airbrush my neck to cover up the raw underskin, it was still so fun and worth it.  So rough, though, thinking of people who do this for the entire length of a movie or movieS or a whole season of a TV show!  I only had to do it for about 9 hours, and it was ENOUGH.  Bravo, entire cast of Lord of the Rings.
